Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions congratulate the workers and farmers of the country for the Massive, Peaceful Mahapadav of farmers and workers on 26-28 November 2023, Concluded Successfully.
The Mahapadav gave a clarion call to Oust the Corporate- Communal Nexus in Governance from Power to Save the People and Save the Nation.
More Determined, Massive, joint Struggles on the demands of farmers and workers Across the Country will be chalked out.
The massive Mahapadav across the country has been extended to Port Blair in Andaman Nicobar, Jammu and Agartala today 28th November 2023. Except the poll bound states and few North East states, the Mahapadav has been conducted in the capitals of all the states and Union Territories marks its political importance. Apart from leaders of Kisan and Trade Union movements, many intellectuals, artists and eminent personalities attended the mass protest action and greeted the participants.
In many states, other sections of the people and their organizations joined the Mahapadav. In many states the 'Kisan Mazdoor Mahapadav' has become a peoples movement.
The Mahapadav struggle has been concluded today with the participants marching towards Raj Bhawan’s and submitting Memorandum and Charter of Demands to the respective Governors. Though tens of thousands of farmers and workers joined the Mahapadav, the struggle remained peaceful across the country with highest self-discipline and determination.
The three days of Mahapadav on 26 November to 28th November 2024 has been called by the Joint convention of Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Joint Platforms of the Central Trade Unions /Federations on 24 August2023.
The All-India leaders of SKM and CTUs attended the Mahapadav in different capital cities.
The Mahapadav which has followed a massive campaign throughout the country, endorsed the Declaration adopted in the All-India Convention of Workers and Farmers held on 24th August 2023. The Declaration has stated the real enemy of the workers and farmers and the cause for their miseries and the miseries of the nation, is the anti-national destructive policy regime being operated by the corporate-communal nexus in the governance at the centre. They cannot be expected to change their pro-corporate policies. Hence, they have to be ousted from power.
Joint and coordinated struggles of both workers and farmers be developed at such a height that no government either at the Centre or States dare to impose anti-worker and anti-farmers policies. Working class and Farmers’ movement is destined to discharge this task along with the people at large, leading from the front.
The workers and farmers demanded the national economy should be protected from the malice of the systemic crisis of the neoliberal policies by putting more money in the hands of the common people who create our national wealth and keep the national economy running, by increasing the statutory minimum wages and expanding and universalising social security measures with government funding and other such measures, such as subsidy to farmers including agricultural inputs, the state owned mandies, appropriate MSP etc are the measures necessary to address the distress among the farming community. This can be done by increasing taxes on corporates, rich and the Super Rich, restoring Wealth Tax, and Succession Tax.
The Mahapadav has alleged the actions of the Government at the Centre are against the federal structure of our nation: Governors, appointed by the Centre, openly act as agents of the Centre, making it difficult for the elected state governments to function, many elected state governments are overturned to install their own party governments, GST funds collected at the Centre are not shared with the State Governments, prompting them to go to the Supreme Court to claim their rightful dues! The party ruling at the Centre, is using its brute majority to overturn Supreme Court Orders (Case of National Capital Service Matter), reconstituting the 3-member committee that decides the Chief Election Commissioner and the other Election Commissioners: by replacing the Chief Justice of India by a minister of the ruling party and the PM and the Leader of the Opposition being the other two!
Writers, intellectuals, journalists, social activists and members of the opposition are being targeted on flimsy grounds only for criticising this Government with the help of government agencies such as the ED, CBI, NIA and through misuse of nefarious laws such as UAPA and Sedition Act etc. The Editor of Newsclick Media Prabir Purkayastha and the HR Manager Amit Chakraborty are jailed by the Union Government since they have published the truth and facts on the historic farmer’s struggle. This is aimed to create an atmosphere of terror, to silence all opposition and dissent, and sabotage democratic processes.
The SKM and CTUS warned that there will be more determined massive, united struggles on the demands of the people.
The SKM and CTUs congratulate the thousands of activists of the constituent organizations who has taken the issues to the people to make it a struggle of the people.
